BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide based on a fragment of a protective protein found in gastric juice. It is notably stable in acidic and aqueous conditions, which underlies much of the research interest.

Its regulatory status has shifted recently: it was removed from the FDA’s bulk-substances Category 2 list in April 2026 and is under continued review, so status should be verified against current guidance.
